Holy shit! When did Bill Riles move to Canada? How do you have an intelligent discussion with someone who writes one thing and then later denies that he wrote it? When he says he has an idea to the exclusion of all other ideas and you state that it isn't fair to condemn other people and their ideas just because they don't agree with yours, he says I am being defensive and nasty when attacked. When he says an idea won't work (getting backgammon clubs into schools) and you show him absolute proof that it is working and that clubs have formed and we are able to overcome the gambling arguments by showing that it doesn't have to be about gambling and that it is an excellent tool for learning math, strategy, planning ahead, and even life skills, he simply ignores those comments.

When one person on the USBGF board says something he doesn't like, he not only decides to condemn the entire organization, but he publicizes that so as to encourage others to do so as well. And I'm the bad guy?

When he says that "old guys" shouldn't be doing this and we should leave promotion to the kids to younger players, am I not supposed to take that "personally"? Right now, a lot of the college clubs and teams are being established and coached by myself, John O'Hagan, Chuck Bower, and Joe Russell. Most of the VOLUNTEER work of the USBGF is being done by Perry and other "old guys and gals" on the board. Should they be insulted and asked not to continue their efforts because they are too old, even though us old guys who don't have kids at home and regular jobs are the ones with the time to devote to helping see the game grow.

How do you have an intelligent conversation with someone like that? You try, until he gets so personal and so insulting and so ridiculous that you just can't try any more.

As my old Grandfather used to say: "Never argue with a fool, people might not know the difference."

How do you have a discussion with someone like that?
