underlining

Hi Nack,
What you suggested is similar to the comment where I suggested using the edit bar and highlighting character and using control-u to underline characters. It was along the lines of what I was thinking was being asked.
David will correct me if I'm wrong, but a more simplistic view of what I think David is seeing would be the equivalent of using your method to enter this text into cell A1: 21S-11 [e E8 E11] ^62
Then lets say in cell B1 you put the formula +A1 (This formula would simply display the contents of A1 in B1. What I think David is observing is that Cell B1's formula yields the text from A1 but all the formatting is stripped (including the underline).
If I am understanding David correctly (in my simple example) - Besides the Unicode method that Tim suggested I don't believe Excel allows you to do this UNLESS you could a new function in VBE that can be used in a formula (Assuming you are running Excel on something other than a Apple Mac Office) . The Function could use VBE scripting to copy the value AND formatting of one cell into another. I haven't tried it but it might work. But it seems like a whole lot of pain.
