Rich, I was not trying to write that a recorded match is worthless.

I was just trying to understand why the USBGF would limit the availability of such matches to it's members. Considering your ByLaws §2 Purpose.

I understand why some refined materials must be limited to your members, that make it worth to join. Such as your magazine, education sessions, pro-matches, etc.

But a simple recorded match from a tournament? My suggestion was in fact constructive (or at least I tried to be constructive), when you (USBGF) record matches from the tournaments you sanction, why not put them on your site for everyone to see, and in addition have one of your pros/teachers write some annotations/comments to the very same matches, members only?

I mean, people not joining a certain tournament (maybe they live thousand of miles away) could be very interested in seeing those matches?

So, my post was not to continue on the misunderstanding of a director trying to prohibit a recorded match being put online - rather it was about the general concept of recorded matches being members only, for a non-profit organization trying to promote backgammon and tournaments.

I couldn't imagine that the DBgF recorded matches at Nordic Open, with foreign players, and then put then on our closed website for Danish members only. It would be put on the public space for everyone to see and hopefully to help draw bigger attendance the following year!

Anyway it's not a big deal, and it might have roots in me failing to understand the context that USBGF operates in, which is very different from DBgF - you have a new federation that has emerged in an existing market, which already had tournaments, directors and a tour! DBgF is the very basis of Danish backgammon, if you want to play a tour, you got to be a member! Simple as that. (Apart from beginner flights, select weekly cafe tournament, etc.)
