I would be inclined to play 5-3 2-1, or 5-4 5-3 . I wouldn't hit here. You don't need a gammon to win. If you play to hit (in that case you'd likely be looking at 8-7 2-1) then you are giving the opponent chances to come off the bar and hit 1 in 9 chances, if he managed to get lucky and hit with 4-3 and then picks up the second checker he's looking at a potential gammon and win.

I say play safe, play with the race lead you have.
