I play 5/3 because it looks natural to move the 4th checker on the 5 to fill in a gap on the 3, and 5/4 because 323221 looks like a faster bearoff (minigap on the 5point a little bad, spare on the 4 point not bad) than the 242221 distribution I get after 6/3. My second choice is actually not 6/3 but 5/3 2/1, which is probably good, too -- looks to me like the icky 2/1 slide is offset by getting your 6's to play 8/2 without stacking on the 2 point.

I take it your "6th best" play was not hitting (it looks very wrong to give 4/36 shots with such a big race lead) but perhaps 6/4 5/4, 6/5 3/1 or 5/4 3/1? I don't like those plays. That 3 point checker looks lonely and wants company for the impending bearoff.
