What difference would you expect between XG 3- and 4-ply? Gnubg 0-ply should be good enough here (I don't think there'd be much difference between that and 2-ply).

even difficult trapping plays

Trapping plays were a problem for early versions of Snowie. KW and others wrote up some examples. But the latest versions of Snowie, Gnubg and XG understand them pretty well, afaik.
