For plays that hit, not much, but for plays that don't hit, it's important to look ahead and see what kinds of exchanges are going to happen in the next couple of ply. Possibly I'm being too conservative here, but for example the fact that XG 3-ply gets my new position 6 wrong is one reason I think XG 4-ply may be better.

Of course if the only question is whether the position is a drop then exceptionally accurate play isn't necessary.
