Why not just put it where "trails 0-1 to 2, Crawford." is in your example? If it's money play that's dead space anyway.
My thought was, because I like the match score appearing twice, from each player's perspective. But if it's a nonmatch game, "money game, Jacoby" doesn't need to appear twice. Would you put it on both sides, or on one? If on one, which?
It's partly a matter of what you're used to and expect. Re score, if I don't see a score, I assume it money play (or if match play, the score doesn't matter). But if the score is omitted, some people will wonder what the score is. Re Jacoby or non-Jacoby, I figure that's fine print info, usually of little or no importance.
I think that's too subtle.
I think maybe it's not so much that it's "too subtle" but that you hadn't noticed that the point numbering reveals whose turn it is? I know that in all the discussions in the past about confusion about whose turn it was, that particular subtlety had not occurred to me!
there seems to be screen real estate to say "on roll" so why not use it?
To my eye it's unnecessarily redundant. But sure, there's room for "on roll" or "to play 21" following the score on the relevant side of the board, or "X on roll" or "X to play 21" in a separate header above the board.
