You're right; I inadvertently overstated the case about the headers. However, it wasn't really my main point. Suppose
(1) Someone posts a position with a Nactation string, and doesn't list all other sequences that transpose to the same position (as I just did, which is extremely unusual). For example, say John justs posts a string and nobody bothers to check doppelgangers (which is almost always the case). Later, someone remembers the position but doesn't remember exactly how it arose, so he figures out one of the many other sequences, but it doesn't exist anywhere. The position exists, but not the exact string he uses.
(2) Someone randomly arrives at the same position. Is there any data or discussion on it? Let's see... he types it in, but can't find it. It does exist, but he can't find it because there is no super-duper translator to check for all possible alternately generated strings.
(3) John writes his sequence 31P-43S... but the searcher writes 31P-43Z... (or for example purposes could even be 31A-43Z or 315-43Z). He's dead in the water, unless he deduces and tries not only all sequences, but now all variants of each character within each possible string. A translator, on the other hand, would take into account all legitimate Nactation choices as well.
(4) The header has the Nactation string, but the text of the post does not. Does the "Search" searcher know/remember about trying "Ctrl-F" separately? (Or vice versa, to which my previous post's misstatement attests.)
Regarding the "Search" function, it does not work perfectly, but it does work well enough in this case (only because I wrote out all possible strings!) It is a bit flawed in that it doesn't accept symbols like $ and @. If you toggle to "all" (otherwise ouch) and type the sequence as in the left column, it searches for the (two or) three strings in the right-hand column. The first row is the same; the others differ.

63S-52S-51P-31@-32-g.......63S-52S-51P-31, -32-gTo make the point more vividly, try typing in "51$-21" and see what happens.
Btw, IMO, it would be a gigantic improvement if the Search function could search simultaneously by text and poster (though you've probably heard it all before).
