Rollout

Jeez, I appear to getting all up in Stick's face today.
Me: you dont want to take against a weaker player in a money session (as that really takes away one of the edges you have
Stick: I don't agree with this. If any decision is borderline for money I take against a weaker player. This position is going to waste much time at all and a weaker player can always find things to mess up, it's impressive. They may not hit with those immediate sixes as they should, big blunders. They may not know when to take or drop later recubes. They may not know how aggressively they should or shouldn't be bearing off if they don't get a second checker. They may get the second checker and you could anchor and then do they trap or not? There's a slew of scenarios that someone could botch up and for money I definitely take.
Me again: Do you still take with Neil's new rollout, which indicates a drop? I can see your point, but I think vs the weaker player your advantage is not in dicking with small take/pass decisions, but more with putting them on the receiving end of a difficult position. In this example, you are basically giving black an opportunity to win a 4pt game. Your advantage really comes when you let 2pts go this time, and get more in subsequent games. Walter Trice's 'Fish' book really covers this in more detail, I understand.
Me: You dont want to take against a stronger player
Stick: I was unaware that such a player existed. If it did, let's call it XG, and I would tend to disagree for this specific position. This is a position that I can't possibly mess up the checker play. The only decision I may ever have is whether or not to recube, relatively easy decision. If playing stronger player and it's a borderline take/drop and I can't make any errors then jacking up the cube level would seem like a good thing to me.
Me again: This statement applies to the mere mortals here, not just you. And you are most likely right there.
Me: you also hit with aces after a miss too, perhaps even a 3
Stick:I'm confused, aces and threes both hit a second blot when you enter.
Me again: I referred to the sequence where you miss the blots from the bar, and white does nothing of note, and you follow up with an ace or a 3 to play. The 3 is extremely fishy though, and I dont know about that...
Stick: Additionally I think it'd be a grave error to drop this in a chouette in terms of trying to get/keep the box.
Me again: Well, suddenly you have extra reasons to stay in the box, dont you. Doesnt that naturally deepen take points just a little bit? Thats a matter of personal perspective though. Some people dont want to get into the box, some are happy to play on the outside. I like to get into the box, and am willing to take a small amount deeper to try and stay there (unless the price is too high), hard to quantify though.
