We're far behind in the race with the weaker board, and a rather stripped position. I would like to maintain contact while avoiding getting hit, and I would also like to create some flexibility. I don't think it's right to advance our rearmost checkers when this far behind in the race. So the two candidates that appeal to me most are 18/13 18/8 9/4 and 13/8 13/3 9/4. The former play creates more immediate contact with White's checkers and also seems to be a little more flexible. The latter play makes a three-point board and keeps two anchors back for more long-term contact. Not sure but I guess I'd try 18/13 18/8 9/4.
