The Doubling Cube

I am not sure the doubling cube is interesting in a game like chess. Let's say Anand or someone like that plays an international master. E4 E5 double, drop?! It is OK if players are approximately equal in strength, but otherwise...
What I would find interesting in BG is a variant in which you could decide to cube after your roll if you have cube access - and then, if you cube, you'd get to re-roll. No Jacoby. Say 62 24/18 13/11 55 6/1*(2) 8/3(2) 66. Do you cube (beaver) and re-roll or not? Say you don't cube (so you dance), and that you get cubed and take. Is this correct cube action or not?!
