I don't know what is "standard," but for what it's worth, Nactation uses the single letter "P" for Pass in a move string, whereas if D were used for drop it could be confused with Double or DMP (depending on the situation). Granted, to reduce the conflict, C is used for Cube, and d is used for dmp, but still...

Xavier might have his own reasons for preferring one or the other; I don't know.
