I am accustomed to splitting into a burgeoning prime, and certainly Black's offensive structure looks to develop into one. I think it was probably the proper 32Z response to an opening 31 that may have implanted the notion to consider a minor split with other 32 replies—however a response to a 31 opener carries with it the additional criterion of the extra inner board point that you adroitly mentioned.

This still leaves defying the principle of "Never slot & split", but I suppose all rules have their exceptions.
