In addition to playing out the position, I'd recommend that you make small changes to the position and see how the XGR+ evaluation changes. Sample changes might include:

1. Give White an open 1pt instead of an open 2pt.

2. Change the locations of White's rear checkers; how far forward do you need to move them to get XGR+ to drop?

3. Weaken Blue's board.

4. Weaken Blue's outfield structure.

5. Change the positions of Blue's spares.

This will give you a pretty understanding of what features of the position make it a take, and it's a more reliable procedure than just reading other people's opinions. Even very strong players may offer explanations that turn out not to stand up to this kind of analysis.
