Bill, you're a true gentleman.
Ray is well within his rights to insist to not play legal moves. These are the current rules for US BG, unless one is playing in a legal moves event, ie Chiva's. I know some people here seem to think Ray is a dipstick for not agreeing to play legal moves, but I don't, since nothing in the rules in force at this fine T forces anyone to play legal moves if they don't want to.
That being said, it does go a bit far to allow you to hit yourself. Perhaps the rules of BG should be changed so that you cannot place your own checker on the bar, bear off the opp's checker(s) and other rediculous impossibilities.
Once, again, within the rules of BG, Ray did nothing wrong.
As for agreeing to play legal moves when opp hasn't agreed well.. this is akin to turning the other cheek. I found out at an early age, when you turn the other cheek, sometimes you get both sides of your face punched.
