Illegal versus impossible

"USBGF and ABT should join forces and enact a new set of rules for Tournament backgammon in the USA that make it a requirement that all events be run as "legal play only".

Why? 'Sportsmanship' is not an answer. The core of sportsmanship is following the rules, and following the current rule as written IS sporting. And are you really trying to say the the 'spirit of backgammon' is that my opponent is put in charge of correcting me when I play badly? You need to think a TINY bit harder about this...

And you REALLY want kibitzers to yell out when they see an illegal play made? If this becomes allowed I would seriously consider leaving the game. One of the pleasures of match play is that NO has the 'right' to criticize my play during a match. Kibitzers can get barred immediately if they open their mouths in this way, and rightly so.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but have you EVER played in an ABT event? It is my understanding you have not, or have only done so only once or twice. Why you should have such strong opinions about something in which you don't participate is confusing to me.
