Illegal versus impossible

Do I believe that people use illegal plays to gain equity at the expense of their opponent deliberately? Yes, some do, but not always. Do I think that it is not in the spirit of Backgammon - Yes. Do I think it is sportsmanlike to use such tactics - not if you willfully do it. Do I need to have gone to many live events to take my position? No.
I knew my comment about kibitzers would be contentious, but if you mandate legal moves, then if an illegal move is observed and opponent says nothing then sure I do believe that a kibitzer should have the right to draw attention to it.
In this case I do not consider that Ray was sportmanslike nor do I think he was playing in the spirit of the game at all, despite the current rules. Not all rules make you ethical or moral if you observe them. That is true about rules and laws in society as well.
On this we will have to agree to disagree.
