Although I do think legal moves pretty much resolves this instance, that wasn't so much my point. What I was getting at is that the "any legal position" interpretation is pretty spurious itself and is hardly airtight. That it would seem to encourage taking a gratuitous shot in an almost-gin noncontact bearoff kind of points to that.

If you agree to that then it isn't so much of a stretch to see that an impossible vs. illegal interpretation, or a legal moves rule, isn't so far out of the question.
