So in the hypothetical case MCG created we assume the player meant to bear off his checker but accidentally put it on the bar and when asked for a ruling we force him to bear it off because it would have benefited him(?) but in the real life situation where the player accidentally put his checker on the bar he's fucked because it benefited his opponent(?). Hmm...doesn't seem right.
