What the heck does "NM" or "*NM*" mean?

I think it's supposed to mean "No Message", but you could also interpret it to mean "No More". If you open the message there will be nothing else there. If it appears a lot of people are reading them, I think it's just to get them to turn purple in the list. Otherwise they might keep scrolling down because there's something that looks new and blue, but it's just an old *NM*.
