The second one was indeed in large part about cheating, but the first one is likely to be the far more common scenario--that is, a kibitzer disrupts a match with an honestly mistaken observation on his part.
BTW the second scenario was not supposed, necessarily, to be one where the foreign player had originally intended to cheat. That is why I didn't say it was truly the worst case scenario, which is one where a group of people do in fact premeditate the entire act. In the case I describe, it could have been pre-arranged, but perhaps not; but in the end the player gives in to the temptation to side with his friend who is trying to "help" him. If he were to think it through right now, or if he had considered this possibility in advance, perhaps he would have instead told the friend he's mistaken, then to take a hike.
For this reason, I don't think my post was primarily about intentional cheating. It was about first, honest mistakes leading to disruptions; second, about complex situations that would lead a weak-minded player who up to that point had played honestly, to cheat though he'd perhaps not intended to from the start; and only third, (by implication in the second case) about intentional cheating.
I deliberately avoided the many additional situations that can arise because of Calcuttas or a book. I think both of the latter items are dinosaurs on their way to extinction in the BG world anyway. But in those cases, and all cases, telling the kibs in no uncertain terms to sta zitto will avoid a lot of problems.
If kibs witness something that looks awry, they can still call a director or staffer over and tell them what they think they saw. And of course these tournament officials (or appointed monitors) can themselves intervene at any time. I think that's enough protection for the players, but even if I become convinced that more is needed, I will continue to believe letting watchers interject themselves into a match must not be permitted. I'd have TDs install an "eye in the sky" first.
