What my point is meant to be is that I don't see how you can rule the checker is borne off if I mistakenly placed my checker on the bar instead of took it off the board and my opponent rolled thus condoning my illegal play as in MCG's example when all it is by the rules is an illegal play whereas in the recent scenario between Ray/Bill it was just that, an illegal play, and I gather you would never think of overturning that play standing using the current rules.

You said the checker being put on the bar was the result of carelessness so it should be borne off whereas I was contending that every illegal play is a result of carelessness so if you're going to rule one way on Ray's situation you have to rule the same way in MCG's situation strictly 'per the rules'.

I should have come to PGH, it's much more fun to discuss these scenarios face-à-face au lieu de internet forums.
