Per the rules though I don't believe you have a case unless you implement rule 1.1.

Agreed.

In my post, I said: He is simply ruling that during the bearoff, lifting a checker eligible to be borne off and placing it in a location other than a lower homeboard point constitutes bearing off the checker. This would be a possible directors interpretation of a borne off checker under rule 1.1 that would then justify the subsequent ruling that the checker must come off the bar and leave the playing surface.
