There are a lot of issues I have with comparing this score to something like gammon go. You mentioned some of them. Let me list the things that are vastly different here than from gammon go.
- Our opponent has cube access. Sure, we hope to be able to turn it early here in order to kill his gammons and add some value to ours but that's not where we're at now among with other variables that I'll mention in a second.
- Our opponent's gammons on a 1 cube still have significant value. In fact his gv on a 1 cube is higher than our own.
- Even if we do get what we want, an early cube turn in a gammonish position, our gammon value is about .62. This is clearly closer to a money gammon value than a gammon go gammon value.
You said "To me, this means that our opening plays should be similar to GG since we will often be cubing here once we get a decent advantage and a G threat."
Let me pick on the most obvious, how would you play an opening 62? I'm sure you'd throw up a little bit in your mouth before you'd play it at this score but at gg it's a real candidate. How about something less obvious, an opening 54, do you play S or D at this score? An opening 41? An opening 51? While a couple of opening rolls no doubt get the nod to play two down like 43 or 32 they're simply so close for money it's obvious these little details would swing them at the score. Comparing it to gammon go though is a no go for me.
