Late game decision

In Response To: Late game decision (Chuck Bower)

It can't be right to volunteer a shot, but the question is whether to build a strong board at the cost of wasting pips with 6/1 4/1, or to play something that is better for the race. 8/5 8/3 is the most efficient, but there are also 'tweener plays such as 8/5 6/1 or 8/3 4/1. OTB I'm sure I would just make the ace point, but I can easily believe that one of the other plays is better.
