Origin of "splot"

I've heard "splot" used for many years (and not even first from Mary, though she seems to have popularized it). The only reason I didn't employ it for Nactation is that I needed S for Split (and Slot, Stack, Slide, Shuffle, Scoop and Smack, among others, were competing for that letter as well). If only splot began with a W. :)
I'm glad to now know splot's origin (or apparent origin). Thanks, Chuck!
