If the question was, would you have seen this OtB, than, i must admit, i would have played 13/10 perhaps. Given as a "problem", spider perception is activated. But the 4 is clear as a mountain lake on jingle jangle spring morning. Everyone who worked with bots or read Roberties "Modern Backgammon" for example will make the split. The 3 is "New Ideas in Backgammon" level.

As Timothy Chow stated, we see, that it is helpful, to study openings with a "Book A" view. This method probably is the best. But looking openminded, putting the rules of thumb in question will help also.
