I would certainly have made the 5pt here.
So far, nobody seems to have taken what I would consider to be the obvious first step in trying to understand this position: Examine a dozen variants. This should quickly indicate (for example) whether what's going on is a general strategic principle, or a tactical peculiarity of this particular arrangement of checkers. Ways to vary the position include: changing the race; adjusting the distribution of spares; changing the location of the anchor and/or the homeboard point; moving the blots and adjusting the roll accordingly; etc. By formulating theories based on the preliminary variants, one naturally is led to explore further variants.
In this day and age I would have thought that this procedure would be second nature to most serious players, but apparently not. If nobody else steps up to the bat, I might give it a try.
