Let me try to understand what you are saying:

You mean 18/15 is a distraction play?! If Black hits, the spares may overshoot the open 5 and 7, while if Black makes either of the points, we gain extra shots on the blot?! And if you stay on the 18, pointing numbers that leave a blot carry a reduced risk because part of the next roll needs to be used for entering?!
