The good money players are always the ones that want the cube turned over as quickly as possible. You can't acquire a big number unless you pass the damn thing around. The less aware players tend to agree to the rule because they haven't examined how quickly things can escalate. After they become experienced, they become the new advocates of Jacoby, in order to get some of the money back.
Hardly the only backgammon convention that is actually a tool of the predator.
