Nice word to add to my vocabulary, but what does it mean?

I have played a ton of matches, but do not recall wasting a lot of time at 0-0 or something like that when one was playing for the gammon with an unturned cube. That is one of the reasons why I don't like the Jacoby rule, it takes away some of the complexity, while the problem it purports to address hardly exists.
