Reasons for the Jacoby Rule

In Response To: Reasons for the Jacoby Rule (Joe Russell)

It may take a lot of skill to get all the nuances of Jacoby doubling right, but I think that just acknowledging that it almost never matters and not considering it at all for good-enough estimation is bringing me almost all the way to the perfection.

How big an error is it even possible to make by not doubling a position that would not be a double without Jacoby?
