Anecdote from Monte Carlo

About fifteen years ago at the Monte Carlo tournament, KG and I strolled over to pick up two comrades for dinner. As one of them finished up in the bathroom, we chatted in the hotel room.
There was a backgammon position set up and I was asked my opinion. I looked over and smiled at the joke, but they persisted. "No, really, what would you do?" I looked around for the other board, because all 30 checkers were the identical color.
"Can I move either direction?" I asked. The chiding went back and forth as our fourth member joined us, until we eventually realized I wasn't on the same page.
In reality, the checkers were maroon and dark green. The dwindling sunlight didn't help, but no one except me had the slightest trouble seeing the color contrast.
Now when I don't feel like discussing backgammon, I plead color-blindness.
