I definitely would have misssed this OTB. I guess the point is that any 1 is good for white next roll(except 16) no matter how you play it. When he doesnt roll the 1 you are so much better off playing 13/9 than 8/4, that apparently it makes up for the extra gammon losses. Good problem.
