I understood Bob's line of thinking, and did the exercise for entering against a five point board. The number of rolls needed to enter x checkers against a five point board are as follows (using 4 decimal places instead of working with increasingly complex fractions):
x=1 -> NR = 3.2727 (which you knew already)
x=2 -> NR = 6.2479
x=3 -> NR = 9.2500
x=4 -> NR = 12.2495
x=5 -> NR = 15.2493
Seems like the number of rolls increases with 3 for every extra checker.
