1. A real toughie. White could make a 5-prime, but leads the race so timing may go against him. 11/9* 3/2* uses the 12 men in the zone to blitz, but it's a big ask to maintain that blitz and roll the 626 needed to escape. An alternative approach is to anchor up and shuffle 11/9* or 11/10(2). I think White must restrict Black's outfield mobility, so 11/9* is part of my move. I just can't see the blitz working, so I'll take the anchor. 24/22 11/9*
2. White has a race lead but running 23/20 just invites attack. Anchoring on the 3 is possible; despite Stick's scorn, it offers a direct 6 to escape. Pick and Pass doesn't seem to offer much - White is too short of builder to take advantage. 13/11 6/5 does give a real advantage if White can cover, but he isn't a favourite to do so. Other plays are available, but I'll just anchor on the 3 point.
3. If you don't hit, you are likely to be forced to break your anchor first anyway, so lets do it now. Then I think you must lift the blot, because Black's return hit would win with the cube or allow him to play on. Then you hope to scramble home. 18/7* 6/5.
4. Two stragglers wastes about 5.5 pips, IIRC. Black has about a five roll position, plus a little. The epc is about 37.5 to 37 or so. It's pips vs. rolls so the last take is a 5-3 = 2 pips. With the epcs about even, this looks to be an initial double, but not a redouble. No-redouble, Take.
5. A 1-4 backgame is poor, and White doesn't have much timing. Advancing the anchor plays against the stacked midpoint. Leave the rear men back to stop Black dumping safely, so that leaves 21/18(2) 13/7.
