backgammon activity other than player

This is such a hot topic amongst backgammon players. I am one of the few BG players who believe BG is not very popular due to lousy online backgammon gambling (high rakes and long waits). There is no money in backgammon. Follow the money. That is what my hero Bill Robertie has done.
Many players began backgammon in clubs and believe that increase club activity and backgammon education are the keys to increase BG popularity. I am dubious that these approaches will increase backgammon awareness to significantly improve BG’s popularity. I hope that I am wrong.
I also suspect that online BG gambling will never be very popular even with significant changes. Sure online BG gambling can be improved. But I doubt that any improvement will dramatically increase the number of BG players. Sadly, I am pessimistic about BG’s future. I suspect that it will continue to be a fantastic, intricate game of strategy which is enjoyed by relatively few people. Again, I hope that I am wrong.
