Looks like an interesting book. Like so many, I have it in my collection but have never read it.

I'm surprised by all the analysis. I would have thought P (Point, 13/9 11/9), regardless of shots, to be a routine expert play (even for the 1970s, let alone the 90s), making a five-prime and aiming to turn the cube if not hit. Any other play leaves good 1s and 2s (or worse, 1s and 6s) anyway.

White's first two plays of that game seem worth examining (do not infer that the actual plays made are wrong just because I am showing them):

For money, P (Point, 13/7 8/7) beats H (Hit, 13/7 6/5*) by about .055. However, at gammon go, H beats P by .038 (according to GnuBG 5k rollout). Which play should White make at the 𣯔 score?

Author comment: Splitting is clearly best since [White] is behind in the race and [Blue] has only one checker back. [White] wants contact or to make an advanced anchor, and the split offers better chances of reaching these objectives.

Is this analysis cogent? Is F (Float, 24/23 6/5(3)) White's best play?
