In Response To: Daily Quiz 3/20/11 (Stick)

1) Our shot chances are well over the usual holding game, on the other hand, there are some doubles and some loose hits that really hurt, especially given our cheesy board. The double is very clear, and I am indecisive about the take. D/T.

2) Visualizing some moves ahead (or looking at the pip count) shows that though possible it is rather far-fetched to imagine ourselves staying stuck behing Black's cheesy prime. So even though 24/21 7/6 has good looks, I'll play 7/4 5/4 for the extra gammons (we figure to get shots as Black probably has to slot whenever possible).

3) I am not yet satisfied with the racing lead and will keeping the blocking point by 13/4. Only 44 and 53 hit, and the latter leaves us a 13/36 shot before being redoubled out.

4) Very difficult one for me. With the cube in the center, I'd hit without hesitation because of the large cube overkill when hit back. With the cube in hand, I'll play 24/23 11/8 and try my chances that Black rolls one of the 10 numbers that neither make the 8-point, neither point on me. If Black does nail the 8-point, just sigh and hit loose.

5) Huge take, that is the easy part. We are missing the 8-point and the six probable shots when we clear the 11-point will be an additional trouble. On the other hand, we have got the market losers, and it is not clear to me whether there will be a more efficient cube down the road. For instance, if we blot on the 11 in two moves and are missed, we will also be closer to the end of our rope, so it is at best unclear whether we will have made progress. D/T.
