In the past when my PR was worse I would look for (guess ;-)) the QF answer but now I just take a disciplined approach and list all plausible moves look at all the relevant features of the position, weight them, maybe compare them to reference positions I know then come to a conclusion.

If rollouts confirm my choice and also how other plays ranked then good.
If not them I re-analyse the position more deeply usually by breaking down all the immediate rolls and maybe replies or looking to see how small variations can change the correct move or cube action.

This disciplined approach has improved my game considerably in recent times and helps me to find the correct answer rather than simply looking for the QF answer. This is the procedure I do whether OTB or in a quiz.
