Daily Quiz 3/21/11

1) I'll hit the blot on the 14 - I think white has to hit here, and whacking the blot on the 14 looks better than shifting points to hit on the ace. Yeah, white could do both, but the third checker seems gratuitous and I like the prime that's forming too much to ruin it by burying a pair on the ace.
18/14* 13/11(2)
2) White is outboarded, and even though he has an anchor on the 21 I'm inclined to be cautious here. 21/13 looks better than something like 13/11* 13/7.
3) Looks like a well timed ace point game which usually gives 20% wins and 20% gammon losses for black. Even without Jacoby it's not too-good. The gap *looks* problematic, but I only see 6-3 forcing a direct shot, and black is on the verge of crunching. I say ship it. Black should be able to eke out a take here due to his board and the gap in white's board, even though I wouldn't like to take it. D/T.
4) White has superior position and an advantage in threats (13 rolls hit) and usually that's enough, but the 30 pip deficit gives me pause. While black's candlesticks look weak, Black has a fair number of rolls that improve his position to the point where white is playing a weak ace point game. I'd hold the cube as white. ND/T
5) Whack the blot on the 22 and try for a gammon. Then run to the 11 point, leaving a blot that just might be able to pick up a third checker rather than running out to the 16. I don't think slotting the 2 point is wise. Hitting a second checker is worth considering, but I don't have the stomach for that. I won't be surprised if the double hit is correct. 24/22* 17/11.
6) Entering and hitting seems almost forced. White is way behind in the race, so he's gotta do something. I'll play the fourth ace to the 8 point since I need to be able to play a six reasonably next roll. 24/23 makes sixes sucky. bar/24 11/9*/8
7) White has big advantages in position and race. Ship it. Black has an ugly take. D/T. 4)
