BQ: Kill one checker or stack'em up?

I made the pretty-looking play by stacking the 7 and 8 points, which to boot gave me three checkers aiming for the blot on the 3 point.

The bot said that was the wrong play. I know it has to do with being able to come home safely, but don't understand the theory.
