White's chances improve dramatically if she is able to form a second anchor. Hitting is not that dangerous for you because you have an equally strong board and you should be able to re-enter pretty easily. If White dances and you make the 3pt then the upside for you is huge; in particular your gammon chances increase a great deal.

This is a pretty common theme. Many intermediate players are afraid to hit loose in these sorts of situations because they underestimate how much the opponent gains by anchoring and they overestimate how bad it is to get hit back.
