Think of it this way: to compare 13/5(2) with 24/20(2) 13/9(2), first move 13/9(2) since that part is common to both moves. Now ask yourself, which improves your position more, shifting the 9pt to the 5pt or shifting the 24pt to the 20pt? It should be pretty clear that shifting the 24pt to the 20pt gains more because the 9pt is already pretty good.

In other words, you should not be trying to compare the absolute value of the 20pt vs. the 5pt, but the difference between the 24pt and the 20pt with the difference between the 9pt and the 5pt.
