I'll have to check Magriel when I get home tonight, but I don't think UTG requires you to be splitting. I think you can have a single runner UTG.

As for whether it's like a water pistol, a pellet gun, or a howitzer, that depends on how many homeboard points your opponent owns and how many additional builders he has in the zone.

Regarding too many points, if you make the maximum 7 points you only have a single spare, which is a liability I suppose but one I'll happily live with. (c:
