I'm with Stick on this one.

I'd go further to say that I would hope Oleg apologized to Peggy at the event for what happened. Whether Oleg ever intended to deceive (Sounds likely not the case) isn't relevant - Had I made this error I would have apologized to the opponent right away. I would have split the winnings had I won, if I were in Oleg's position.

As for slander, I think you mean libel since clearly the comments were of a written form. I saw no libel. The worst that was done was to suggest Oleg was lying. What is not in dispute is that Oleg gave an untruth. Even if it wasn't intended, Oleg did provide false information and many people will classify it as a lie.

Ultimately Oleg is responsible for making a pretty serious but more than likely innocent mistake.
