The idea can be strengthened by considering as the repeating position a set of sequences that on average give the same equity as the repeating position.
One place it might come up is if both players have checkers on the bar. Another way it can be used approximately is if there is a slot against a checker on the bar that is likely to be left slotted. Suppose you wish to estimate the win % for white in the position below. A non cover or 5 followed by a fan is close to being a repeater. The likely more covers will on average about balance out the possible earlier crash.
