- 1: 20/8(2)
- I think simple is best here. The creative alternatives (13/1*(2), 13/7(2) 13/1* etc) not only give shots, but also seems to lose focus on the main thing, which is to protect White's racing lead. The only real alternative I see is 20/14(2) 9/3(2) which doesn't stack and makes an inner board point, but leaves the position a little disjointed, and quite frankly the resulting position is less flexible, having removed the 9 point that can be used as builders, and created a stripped 14pt which needs to be cleared.
- 2: No double/take
- Not quite there I think. Say White: 52, not best but good - Black: 52, not worst, but poor, now what? The market is lost, but not by that much, I am not that sorry to have to cash that as White. Thus I hold off in the original position.
- 3: b/23 13/9
- Hitting makes it a little harder for Black to cover his 5pt, but not that much. After 9/5* Black's 16,26,35 do not cover, however, 52 now covers more comfortably, and in addition White has given a lot of shot numbers, in particular 52, 51, 22, 44 that both hits and covers. I think White is supposed to wait and dare Black to tidy up his weaknesses.
- 4: b/20 10/5*(2) 6/1*
- 3 forced 5s, and 13/8 vs 6/1* for the last one. I like the double hit, which almost always allow me to cube next turn, I am cubing even if hit back, at least if the other checker dances after 15 or 16.
- 5: 18/17* 18/16* 24/23*
- I am hitting it all. Now Black has 3 + 2 back as well, and White may win this forward, but may also fall back on the back game plan later. Note that Blacks other outside points are stripped, so he may have some problem with flexibility.
