Another strange incident from the Cleveland Tourney

One reason that Peggy probably believed he lied rather than got confused, was that during our match Peggy came by, sat down for a short time, and said a few things including that she'd be playing the winner. She even stated that she'd rather play Oleg rather than me again, since we had played earlier. However, that doesn't lead me to believe that Oleg actually heard and retained what she said.
As Oleg notes in his post, he wasn't paying much attention, and I will add that our match had several interesting games and many difficult plays. The fact that he didn't rush out the door and leap into a cab for the airport with the trophy and money is a factor in favor of confusion rather than larcenous motives.
This isn't something likely to happen again soon, but if it does, chances are it will be at the end of a weekend tournament, at the end of the last day of it, as was the case here. And if anyone doesn't believe it's possible for someone to hear something, maybe even in some way acknowledge it, but not remember it even five minutes later, has either been out of school a very long time, or has never held a job that involved lengthy meetings.
I understand Peggy's point of view here, and hereby award Oleg one demerit for bad form in not hedging with her. However, regarding guilt in the matter of actual lying, I am more than willing to give Oleg the benefit of the doubt.
